About the company

Our client is a law firm.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Advise corporate clients on sponsoring foreign professionals for temporary and permanent work authorization, from preparing filings to guiding filing strategy and compliance. The work combines careful legal drafting, responsive client service and disciplined deadline tracking, alongside lawyers from other practice areas.

What you'll do

  • Oversee a docket of employer-sponsored work-authorization filings covering a range of temporary and permanent categories.
  • Prepare and file foreign-worker certification applications, including recruitment steps, audit replies and appeals.
  • Draft petitions for individuals of extraordinary ability and for multinational executives and managers.
  • Handle physician and government-agency waiver applications.
  • Advise HR departments and in-house legal teams on filing strategy, timing and compliance.
  • Answer agency evidence requests and notices of intent to deny with persuasive legal arguments and supporting documentation.
  • Work with the firm's corporate, transactional and employment lawyers on client matters that have a work-authorization component.
  • Track cases and deadlines accurately across a high-volume national practice.

What we're looking for

  • 3 to 7 years of business-side work-authorization legal experience, including hands-on work with employment-based petitions, foreign-worker certifications and temporary visa categories.
  • Experience handling certification cases at a law firm.
  • Experience with employment-based temporary visa petitions and with drafting permanent visa petitions.
  • A practice focused on representing employers, rather than individuals or families.
  • Experience answering evidence requests and certification audits.
  • A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the New York bar, or readiness to seek it.
  • Excellent legal writing skills and comfort using case management software.
  • Ability to juggle many deadlines and a heavy caseload.
  • A service-minded approach with corporate HR contacts, proactive updates on case status and delays, and a team-oriented style.
  • Willingness to work on-site about 50% of the time at one of the Upstate New York offices, with local ties or willingness to relocate.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Bonus points

  • Experience with physician waiver applications.
  • Experience preparing extraordinary-ability petitions.

Location and work model

  • Rochester, Buffalo or Albany, New York, United States (candidate's choice of office)
  • Hybrid, approximately 50% in-office over the year
  • Full-time
