Boomi has given its new CFO a clear operating mandate. For candidates and employees evaluating a leadership change, the scope of the job is a useful place to start.
On September 24, 2026, Boomi appointed Mike Hickman as chief financial officer. He will lead global financial planning and analysis, accounting, treasury, tax and financial reporting, reporting to Chairman and CEO Steve Lucas.
Boomi says Hickman spent seven and a half years at Proofpoint, most recently as senior vice president of finance. It credits him with helping guide the company through its take-private and the Hornetsecurity acquisition. Proofpoint's own records confirm that Thoma Bravo completed the company acquisition for about $12.3 billion in August 2021. Its leadership history describes Hornetsecurity as a $1.8 billion acquisition. Boomi's announcement is the source for Hickman's involvement in those transactions.
His earlier experience also covers building finance functions. Boomi's leadership biography says he spent nearly six years in finance leadership at Adobe and built Marin Software's financial planning and analysis function. At Marin, he prepared models, reporting and investor materials for its IPO. He began his finance career at eBay and Vitria Technology.
That background may help explain the appointment, but it does not establish a future transaction for Boomi. The announcement provides no IPO plan, financing or finance-team hiring target.
For someone considering a finance role, I would ask how the new CFO's priorities translate into the day-to-day work. Which planning processes need improvement? Who owns the systems and reporting? What decisions can the team make without escalating them, and what should be different after a year?
For founders, a leadership announcement is more useful when it explains those responsibilities. A recognizable previous employer can attract attention. A clear mandate helps people decide whether their experience fits the work.
