Snorkel AI is putting one wide compensation band around three different kinds of forward deployed work. That is more useful to a candidate than a generic promise to grow after a funding round, but only if you separate base salary from variable pay.
On September 22, Snorkel announced a $350 million financing at a stated $3.5 billion valuation. Insight Partners and S32 co-led the round, with Addition participating alongside new and existing investors. The company says the investment will expand its agentic data factory and support work in vertical and enterprise AI. Those are Snorkel's stated plans, not proof that the financing created every current opening.
Snorkel's careers board listed 38 postings on September 28. The list included separate Senior/Staff FDE roles for computer use agents, synthetic data generation, and Data as a Service. Each posting labels $180,000 to $320,000 as base salary, then adds a variable compensation opportunity whose mix depends on level and location. The Head of Forward Deployed Engineering posting lists $268,800 to $403,200 in base salary and says variable compensation and equity may also apply.
That structure deserves a direct conversation. A $140,000 FDE base spread covers multiple levels and locations, so the top number is not a useful benchmark by itself. Before an interview loop gets serious, I would ask which level the team is hiring for, where the role sits in the band, what the target variable amount is, and how much time goes to customer delivery versus building reusable systems.
Founders can take the same lesson from the other side. Publishing a range helps, but candidates still need a clear level and compensation mix to compare offers. Snorkel's board gives them enough detail to ask the right questions.
