TypeSafe AI announced an $870 million Series A, but the useful question for a candidate is what the company is actually hiring. Its October 13 job board lists 10 on-site San Francisco postings. Eight have consistent published salary ranges of $150,000 to $250,000, one has conflicting pay labels, and one is a six-week contract without a cash range.

That distinction matters. A large funding round can make a company worth a closer look. The role, level and compensation still need their own conversation.

The round and the hiring snapshot

TypeSafe AI's funding announcement identifies the round as a Series A of $870 million at a $7.5 billion valuation. It names Andreessen Horowitz as lead investor, alongside Sequoia Capital, existing investor DCVC and angel investors, and says Martin Casado is joining the board.

The company's counsel, Wilson Sonsini, published an October 9 transaction note with the same amount, round name and valuation. Andreessen Horowitz's October 9 post confirms that it is leading the investment. These are announcement figures. They do not establish a hiring budget or a candidate's offer.

Ten postings, all tagged on-site in San Francisco

The TypeSafe AI Ashby board showed 10 distinct postings when checked October 13. All carry San Francisco Office and OnSite labels. Nine are full-time and one is a contract. The department counts are five in Member of Technical Staff, three in Operations, one in Product and one in Create your own role.

The current titles are:

  • Member of Technical Staff, Model Capabilities
  • Member of Technical Staff, Backend/Platform
  • Member of Technical Staff, Infrastructure (Kubernetes Specialist)
  • Developer Advocate
  • Product Manager
  • Founding Recruiter
  • Founding Marketer
  • Community Manager
  • Member of Staff
  • Safety Jevroni (Contract, 6 weeks)

The public posting data puts nine published timestamps before October 9, ranging from March 6 to October 1. Product Manager has an October 10 timestamp. Those timestamps can reflect publication or an update. They do not prove that the round created the openings, or that an older posting has remained continuously open.

Read the pay labels role by role

Eight postings have structured annual USD salary components of $150,000 to $250,000. Their descriptions also call that range base salary, with equity and leveling. Equity has no published grant size in this snapshot.

Examples include Model Capabilities, Backend/Platform, Developer Advocate and Founding Recruiter. The same published range covers very different work. It is worth asking which level the company expects for the particular seat and where that level falls in the band.

Product Manager also has the $150,000 to $250,000 annual salary component. Its short compensation label omits the word base, while the description explicitly calls the range base salary plus equity.

Community Manager has a material inconsistency. The visible compensation label and structured data say $150 to $250, while the description says $150k to $250k base plus equity. I would ask the recruiter to resolve that in writing. The body suggests the larger range, but the conflicting field should not be silently corrected or counted as an unambiguous $150,000 floor.

Safety Jevroni is listed as a six-week contract and has no published cash band in this snapshot. The full-time salary range does not tell you what that contract pays. Ask about the rate, hours, scope and payment terms separately.

What I would clarify before interviewing

For an engineer or product candidate, I would start with ownership: which problem will you own, who sets priorities, and what would a successful first few months look like? Then clarify the level, approved base range and equity terms. A repeated pay band leaves a lot of room for different expectations.

For the location question, all ten postings are on-site in San Francisco. The full-time descriptions say the team works in person near Embarcadero. Confirm the actual office cadence and any relocation or visa requirements for your circumstances. Published benefits or sponsorship language is useful context, but it does not settle your eligibility.

Member of Staff is a create-your-own-role posting. Explain the problem you could own rather than relying on the broad title. For the six-week contract, get the assignment and compensation clear before comparing it with a salaried opening.

The $250,000 upper bound is a published range for these postings, not a company-wide cap or a promise of an offer. If the numbers repeat, your best questions concern the work, level, equity and terms. Raydar's guide to startup pay bands explains why the label matters as much as the number.
